SVSU Chinese Community Welcomes the Year of Monkey

To welcome the year of Red Monkey, Ming Chuan University-Michigan (MCU-MI) and Chinese Student and Scholars Association (CSSA) at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) co-organized a Chinese New Year celebration featuring a series of live performance, lucky draw and authentic Chinese food last Saturday on February13th.

The goal of the event is to build a closer relationship between students from Mainland China and Taiwan. MCU-MI is glad to see students working together to perform on the stage. Over 150 people packed into the Thompson Student Activities Room (TSAR) at SVSU to celebrate our Chinese heritage and culture. President Donald Bachand and his wife, Provost Deb Huntley, and Associate Provost Marc Peretz were among the many guests who have been very supportive of MCU-MI. The event also included a video greeting from Chinese students from Michigan State University wishing everyone a happy Chinese new year.

Dining together at a round table, many MCU-MI students expressed how this reunion dinner made them feel festive and warm. MCU-MI is hoping to expand the local Chinese community through more interactions and activities in the future.
