TEACHING CHINESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TCFL)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to have a bachelor's degree from an approved college or university to enter the program. All applicants, domestic or international, are expected to be fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Around US$722 per credit hour

APPLICATION MATERIALS AND DEADLINES

The TCFL program begins in mid-August of each year. The application deadline for the Fall 2024 term is March 15, 2024. All required materials must be received before an application will be reviewed. If the original language of the academic record and diploma is not English, a certified English translation must accompany the original document.

The TCFL application consists of several items. A list of application materials is as follows

  • Complete the online applications for MCU-MI and SVSU

  • In English, a One-page Statement of Accomplishments and academic goals

  • A current resume

  • A photocopy of the highest degree/diploma
    * Certificate of enrollment is required if applicant is currently studying in the last school semesterIn sealed envelopes, an official copy of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts from any college or university where college credit was earned (GPA 3.0 and above)
    * If an applicant is studying in the last semester of school, required documents should be verified after graduation

  • Two letters of recommendation in sealed envelope

  • The non-refundable USD$30.00 application fee (Application fee waiver is available.)

  • A photocopy of the score report of Chinese Language proficiency: TOCFL Band B Level 4 or HSK 6 (Chinese native speakers are waived)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-U.S. RESIDENTS/CITIZENS

  • A copy of the passport

  • Evidence of Financial Support - US$27,629 (original document)

  • An official score report of English Language proficiency: TOEFL IBT 61 or IELTS 5.5 (English native speakers are waived) [TOFEL/IELTS requirement waived for graduates of Michigan Public Universities and native speakers of English] **Send via ETS/IELTS using institution code 1766
